Dreams
Langston Hughes (1902 – 1967)
Hold fast to dreams
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly.
Hold fast to dreams
For when dreams go
Life is a barred field
Frozen with snow.
স্বপ্নগুলো আঁকড়ে ধরো
স্বপ্ন যদি মরে
জীবন পাখির টুটবে ডানা
উড়বে সে কী করে।
স্বপ্নগুলো আঁকড়ে ধরো
স্বপ্ন যখন ঘোঁচে
জীবনটা হয়ে ঊষর জমিন
বরফ কঠিন ধাঁচে।
The Theme : The poem deals with ‘dream’. The poem suggests that dreams are the part of our life. Without dreams life is dull and unpleasant. Dreams are our driving force. The poet relates dreams to the wings of birds. Dreams keep us moving as wings keep birds moving. So, the poet suggests us to hold dreams to make life interesting and meaningful.
(কবিতাটি ‘স্বপ্ন’ বিষয়ে আলোকপাত করে। কবিতাটি বলে যে স্বপ্নগুলো হচ্ছে আমাদের জীবনের অংশ। স্বপ্ন ছাড়া জীবন নিরানন্দ ও অপ্রীতিকর। স্বপ্নগুলো আমাদের চালিকাশক্তি। কবি স্বপ্নকে পাখির ডানার সাথে তুলনা করেছে। স্বপ্ন আমাদেরকে কর্মচাঞ্চল্য / প্রাণবন্ত রাখে যেমন ডানাগুলো পাখিকে চলমান রাখে। তাই, কবি আমাদের পরামর্শ দেন জীবনকে চিত্তাকর্ষক ও অর্থবহ করে তোলার জন্য স্বপ্নকে আঁকড়ে ধরতে।)
